IAP paywall — "Choose your protection" shotgun

Six pixel-honest 390×844 screens of onboarding step 07/11 (Essential-only, three App Store intervals). The Control is the shipped design reproduced faithfully from PlanPickerStep.tsx @ main; V1–V5 each pull one distinct conversion lever. All screens show the StoreKit-loaded state; pricing renders plainly per the 2026-08-23 founder ruling (no approximate marker anywhere). Scroll inside each frame — the real screen scrolls too.

Baseline

Control — the shipped paywall

Faithful reproduction of what's on main: Essential card, three interval rows (annual default + Best value pill), exact annualized captions, insurance-after-you-join line, Terms/Privacy, "Why members joined", CTA with App Store price + renewal caption.

Read on it
  • Honest and calm, but price-forward: the screen's biggest numbers are costs, and the year's scariest figure (AED 1,299.48) sits on the cheapest-looking row.
  • Value copy is one card sentence; the CTA moment carries no reward, only a price.

Hypothesis

V1 — Per-day reframe

Reframe the annual commitment from a three-figure yearly sticker into a ~AED 2 daily quantity. The per-day figure leads each row (annual anchored biggest); the exact billed price and full-year math sit right under it in mono, so Apple 3.1.2 price+period stays satisfied at the row AND the CTA ("AED 749.99 per year").

Trade-offs
  • + Strongest de-shock of 749.99; makes annual FEEL cheapest (it reads 2.05 vs 3.56).
  • + The ÷365 footnote keeps the reframe honest — "you are billed the plan price, never per day".
  • − A pattern App Review sees daily; per-day figures must recompute from live StoreKit prices.

Hypothesis

V2 — Savings anchoring

Make the saving the story: computed % badges off the weekly baseline (Save 42% / Save 26%), strikethrough-free, with the AED delta named in each caption. The CTA sub-label carries the reward into the decision moment ("save 42% vs paying weekly").

Trade-offs
  • + Gives monthly a reason to exist (26%) instead of being the ignored middle child.
  • + The base-of-comparison footnote pre-empts the "42% off what?" objection — no fake "was" prices.
  • − Two badges compete; % must come from annualSavingsPercentVs (store-priced, floor) at runtime — badges hide if the store hasn't answered.

Hypothesis

V3 — Value-recap first + segmented picker

Sell the service before the price: a 3-line "What you get tonight" recap does the value work, then an Apple-style segmented control shrinks the interval choice to a detail. One large price for the selected interval; a quiet mono line keeps all three annualized totals visible.

Trade-offs
  • + Recap, picker, price and CTA all share the first viewport — nothing to scroll before deciding.
  • + Segmented control is native muscle memory; the price block reads like a receipt, not a menu.
  • − One price visible at a time — cross-interval comparison leans on the small mono compare line.

V4 — Commitment ladder

Lower the entry bar: weekly leads as the low-commitment "try the protection" way in (Start here), annual is framed as the graduation ("when you're sure… 42% less"), monthly de-emphasized to a compact row. The CTA adapts to the selection — shown here with weekly selected: "Start Essential — AED 24.99 per week".

Trade-offs
  • + Likely the highest paywall-through rate — converts fence-sitters who bounce off a 749.99 default.
  • + "Switch anytime in App Store settings" plants the annual upgrade without pressure.
  • − Lowest initial LTV; weekly churn risk; weekly-first subscriptions draw extra App Review scrutiny (period is fully spelled at the CTA and renewal caption says "Renews weekly").

V5 — Trust stack

Convert the hesitant, not the convinced: the control's picker, but the commitment moment is wrapped in assurances — an under-CTA row (Cancel anytime · Protected from tonight · Restore Purchases) plus one quiet response-arc testimonial in the standing framing (first initial + role + emirate + tenure).

Trade-offs
  • + Answers the three fears that stall paywalls: lock-in, does-it-work-tonight, I-already-paid.
  • + Restore Purchases on the paywall doubles as an App Review expectation.
  • The testimonial line is a FIXTURE — must be filled from the opt-in testimonial pool before ship; we never fabricate member stories. Says "Protected", not "covered" (no insurance implication on Essential).

Laws applied to every tab: identical emergency response on every interval (never lesser/"notification-only" framing) · price AND period unabbreviated near the CTA (3.1.2; weekly variants spell "per week") · exact honest annualized math visible on every variant (24.99×52 = 1,299.48; 79.99×12 = 959.88) · pricing renders plainly, no approximate marker (founder ruling 2026-08-23) · no urgency/scarcity/countdowns · no web-price mention (anti-steering) · Family Shield absent · insurance only as the calm post-join line · Terms of Use + Privacy Policy on every purchase surface. Savings math: floor((1,299.48 − 749.99)/1,299.48) = 42%; monthly vs weekly = 26%; per-day = year cost ÷ 365.
